I was offered a bit of graphic design work lately, which I was beginning to miss doing. It was a fun, quirky task that was a quick round of Illustrator fun.
The task at hand was to take their logo, based around a stylized lion’s head, and replace the head with a skull to create a Jolly Roger (aka, pirate) flag for a company retreat. The bulk of their logo was to remain intact, however, it should feature the crossed bones behind the logo, as well as the skull in place of the head.
I found a nice example of a lion’s skull in the public domain to work from, and gradually began to add in the detail. We didn’t have the original vector file of their logo either, so I was forced to recreate that as well. I also used available imagery of a lion’s femur for the crossbones in the rear, though those were drastically distorted to display properly in the corners.
For an extra bit of personal fun, I nicknamed it the Jolly Cecil.
