I’m currently working with an artist named Erica Mazzeo, who has a very creative idea for a business here in Jackson Hole. Her business is still very much in the development stage, but she wanted to get a logo finished right away to get things moving.
In learning about her product and in meeting with her about her vision, it also allowed me to get to understand her more. In doing so, I wanted her personality to come through in her logo. Her product (still under wraps), is fun, whimsical, and playful, and yet still very professional and finely crafted. Capturing this in a logo was the highest priority. She was originally working as Holly Sage Studio, but we discussed the possibility of Holly Sage Art after a massive brainstorming session about other potential names. In the end, ‘art’ was a missing puzzle piece that helped to define the brand.
Next I looked at samples of what she had. Given what she was going for, I felt a simple feather in one of her works captured the brand’s essence visually. Next I wanted the fonts to speak the name in the same fun but professional manner. We were picky about the specific hand-written font, as well as the pairing with ‘art’, but in the end, came up with what we both feel is a winning combination.
I showed her what I came up with and she loved it! The next project with Holly Sage Art will be the custom ecommerce website.
